I have spent the last five years investigating how to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into my teaching, long before ChatGPT and other generative AI became some of the hot issues in education. Every educator should become knowledgeable about artificial intelligence (AI) and how we may use this technology to improve our own job and help our pupils. We must comprehend how this technology will affect both us and our pupils if we are to give them the greatest care possible. There’s no greater way than utilizing AI to investigate new tools for our educational methods.
The Reasons Teachers Should Know About AI Tools
Over time, our responsibilities as educators have evolved further. Technology always causes some reluctance, but AI is an extremely potent example. Given the potential effects of evolving technology on students’ lives, it is imperative that educational institutions offer opportunity for students to learn about it. Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools have the potential to not only boost creativity and productivity but also offer instructors insightful data on student learning and help with time-consuming activities.
It is crucial that we take the time to discuss artificial intelligence in our classrooms, despite all of its promises. In addition to imparting knowledge, we also act as mentors, educators, and co-learners alongside our students—especially in light of the more potent new technology. It’s critical that we teach our pupils the advantages of these resources as well as how to utilize them sensibly, ethically, and correctly.
THE WAY AI CAN HELP TEACHERS
Personalized learning: Using AI-driven data, teachers may create customized learning experiences that offer insightful information about student performance and learning patterns. AI is able to rapidly modify student learning materials based on this data. Personalized learning experiences that take into account each student’s learning style, learning limitations, and strengths can then be created by teachers using this information.
Productivity and efficiency: AI also leads to increased efficiency. Among the many clerical duties that educators have to perform are interacting with students and their families, marking tests, and giving feedback. Teachers could discover that they spend more time on these administrative duties than they do in instructing and interacting with students. Teachers can spend more time with their pupils by automating or streamlining these tasks with the aid of the correct AI solutions.
Content creation and augmentation: Educators can curate a variety of educational resources using AI-powered platforms. Teachers can build lessons, exercises, evaluations, discussion starters, and presentations with generative AI in particular by only giving students a brief question with keywords.
7 EFFECTIVE EDUCATION TOOLS
These seven artificial intelligence (AI) tools will support educators in implementing personalized learning, making them more productive and freeing up time to work with students. Each of these has been used by me for both personal writing and presentation creation, and the time they save by producing the slides on their own allows me to concentrate more intently on the content. I particularly like that the tools include a range of templates and other resources that educators frequently utilize, in addition to translation alternatives.
1.AudioPen: I’ve been writing blogs, books, emails, and lesson plans using voice-to-text for years. You may use this AI-powered online application on your phone or computer. As it creates the text, the program takes your words and improves them; you may then change it as necessary.
2.Canva Magic Write: Canva has released Magic Write, an AI text-to-image generator that encourages creative creativity. For educators developing a presentation or other graphic for use in the classroom, it is a beneficial tool since it offers ideas, facilitates brainstorming, and promotes lesson planning. By examining the word suggestions, Magic Write can aid educators with a variety of writing assignments. It helps expedite the process of brainstorming, outlining, lesson planning, and producing visually appealing presentations.
3.Curipod: This website lets educators use AI to quickly construct interactive lessons. In addition to exploring a variety of topics, students can benefit from AI capability that creates lessons specifically suited to meet their needs. Instructors only need to input a topic to create a ready-to-use lesson that includes text, graphics, and interactive elements like word clouds, polls, and open-ended answers. Even activities that center on SEL check-ins can be incorporated.
4.Eduaide.Ai: This AI-assisted lesson-development platform gives teachers access to over 100 resource kinds so they can produce excellent teaching materials. It provides instantaneous translation of the created content into over fifteen languages. Teachers can create a syllabus, come up with conversation starters, compose emails, use the “teaching assistant” to assist in designing plans for individualised education, and even make a list of allowances for students. A content generator, teaching assistant, feedback bot, free-form conversation, and assessment builder are all features of Eduaide.AI.
5.OpenAI: To assist educators in utilizing ChatGPT in the classroom, the Teaching with AI handbook was just published. Along with descriptions of ChatGPT’s functionality and limits, the guide offers a number of suggested prompts and serves as a helpful reminder of the significance of fact-checking and bias-checking information. The information is more accurate and reliable in ChatGPT 4 (a premium edition) than it was in the previous version.
6.Quizizz: Using Quizizz, educators may develop tests that, depending on each student’s answers, will generate a customised learning path. Quizizz allows teachers to develop courses as well. New features are on the way, including an AI enhancement that allows users to modify the difficulty of questions, verify grammar, and redesign questions to better match real-world situations.
7.Slidesgo: With Google Slides, this product offers free template access, and it now includes an AI presentation maker. This new feature makes it possible to produce presentations in a matter of minutes. Just pick a subject, decide on a tone (such as informal, artistic, or formal), make any necessary edits, and download your presentation. Indeed a time-saver!
Making these materials and distributing them to our students sparks insightful discussions on the advantages of artificial intelligence and how best to apply it in both creation and education. Teachers can look at a plethora of other resources that can assist with each of the major topics I outlined. The most crucial thing is to choose a tool at first and consider how it affected your practise.
